Rotary Club of Yate and District Closing

It is with great sadness that the members of the Yate Rotary Club have made the decision to close when this presidential year ends on 30th June 2022.

The membership numbers have been severely reduced during the Covid-19 pandemic, despite the valiant efforts of Presidents Darren Williamson (2019-20) and Richard Gilpin (2020-21) to hold everyone together with weekly Zoom meetings and online events.

Now, recognising that most members have become ‘senior citizens’, the feeling is that Yate Rotary will not be able to function in the true spirit of Rotary – adequately to serve the community of Yate.

President Marian Gilpin said ‘We would like to thank everyone who has supported our events during the past 30 years, especially the South Cotswold Beer and Music Festival, the Swimathon, and the Tree of Light. Many thousands of pounds have been raised, and support given, to ‘Kids Out’, ‘Chernobyl Children’, Abbotswood Action Group, Green Community Travel, Friends of Kingsgate, Action Aid, Gurkha Welfare Trust, Mercy Ships, Legs for Africa Shelter Box, Polio eradication and many more.

We feel that we have Made a Difference both locally and further afield, and we thank the community of Yate for helping us to achieve this.’
